A good one to start with is initaly.com. Make sure you sign up for its newsletter.
Then there are two that I call the granddaddies of all websites on Italy:
budgettravel.com/italy.htm
budgettravel.com/italy2.htm
Together, these two sites provide you with listings of literally hundreds of Italian websites covering every imaginable facet of your planning!

I know many of you are still getting used to the changes in the board, but I LOVE this updated version to the forum.
NOW when you enter the complete URL (don't forget the "http" at beginning!) you can now provide readers with a direct link to many of these good sites we're trying to share.

SO, here's a few others for Italy . . .

http://www.venicescapes.org/

http://www.virgilio.it/home/index.html
(note: above site ‘virgilio’ is an Italian search engine)
Try this:http://gens.labo.net/it/regio/
Select the region you're interested in by clicking it on the map. You will then get a list of regional info on the internet with links. Some of the sites are very unusual (regional recipes, newsletters in dialect, etc).
A very good website about the Basilicata region is www.basilicata.com (Basilicata is in southern Italy) Though I've looked enough I haven't found a site as good as that for Sicily.
