Good Place to Stop between Prague and Paris
I am looking for a good place to go for a couple of days that is somewhat between Prague and Paris. I have thought about Brugge. I have been to Vienna, Salzburg and Brussels before and am looking for somewhere new. Any ideas? We will probably be traveling in November. Thanks.

Belgium is north of France, and thus not directly between Prague and Paris. Germany is really the direct link, geographically (don't know the trains so well anymore, but maybe there's a high speed one from Prague to Brussels?), and so I'd suggest Munich, the Black Forest region, or staying in Frankfurt and taking a Rhine/Rhein cruise to see the castles. If for some reason you want to avoid Germany, I did think Brugge was extremely attractive and rich in history, art, architecture and yummy food. It's just kind of out of the way if the whole point is finding a place to break up the journey somewhat midway.

Rothenburg! Look it up - it's one of Europe's most adorable walled medieval villages. If you want hotel ideas, I have some. See www.rothenburg-online.de and click on the British Flag for English pages. You could proceed to Wurzburg if you'd like a dose of Baroque. The Bishops' Palace there, the Residence, is a favorite of mine. The staircase there is pictured on the 50-mark bill! See http://www.unesco-welterbe.de/de2/wuerzburg.htm Between Rothenburg and Wurzburg is one of the most amusing Knight's Halls in Germany, at Schloss Weikersheim. If driving, you could just stop to see it (if it's open in November) on the drive between Rothenburg and Wurzburg.

I like Baden-Baden and a stop at the public hot springs baths. Also, do a search on Baden-badena dn you should find my posting about driving form Paris to Prague-don't uderestimate the driving time-it took us 2 overnights instead of one due to slow border crossing at Czech republic-just thought you might want to know that.

Jeanne
