Does anyone have good suggestions for a good food and nice ambience restaurant in London?

XCan you be more specific, obviously London is a BIG place with thousands of options.

What's your budget? Specific price would be handy, as we all have different ideas about moderate or expensive.
What area are you staying in?
Is this a casual lunch kinda dining experience you're after, or candle lit romance, or buzz, or glitz, or fine dining etc etc?
What kind of food do you want to try? French? Italian? Modern British? Indian, Indonesian? Thai? Lebanese? etc etc.

As I'm sure others will say, there are dozens of types of food in London (ethnic like Indian, Chinese and Thai are really excellent there) and <i>nice</i> ambiance can mean anything from a hopping, convivial place to quiet, romantic and candle lit. Then there's the issue of budget. :-?

I like Langan's Brasserie (not the bistro, that's a different place) for English food with a modern &quot;twist.&quot; The downstairs is &quot;buzzy&quot; with good people watching, the upstairs dining room is quieter and has a great mural of Venice.

Funny, McLaurie. With all the possibilities in London, Langan's Brasserie is the first one that came to mind for me too when I read this post. I still remember the time four of us arrived there at noon for lunch and jokingly told the server we had to hurry as we had a 3:30 matinee. We barely made it because we were having such a good time. And we always do at least one stop there for after theatre supper.

Alex72, give us a little more to go by particularly regarding a location or general area and price and I'll bet we will have a whole lot of suggestions.

thanks for your replies. I am looking at places similar to Le Pont de Tour and Chophouse. Price not so much an issue. English or international food. We arrive from Singapore so enough Asian food. Any specific names?

Look at Putney Bridge or Rhodes Twenty Four.
