I've been trying to look up posts for my questions, but most of them all tell the poster to find a "good" driving map, but never mention them by name.

I think I will actually need two good driving maps - one for the Lakes, and another for Derbyshire.

We will be driving from Manchester Airport to the Lake District(for 3 nights). We will them be traveling from the Lake District, down to Chester(day-trip to Lyme Park), and then finally down to Derbyshire(2 nights).

I vaguely remember some people recommending Michelin Maps, but I would really like to get some input from others who have been to the Lake district/Derbyshire.

No - you really only need one map. But not a fold up map like you may be thinking of. You'll want a UK road atlas - they are available <u>everywhere</u> for just a few &pound;. In garages/petrol stations, news agents book shops, etc.. AA, Michelin, Philips, and other publishers are widely available - just pick up whichever one you find first.

So you would recommened we wait until we get to England to get a map?

Maybe I should look on Amazon - or will it just be cheaper to wait? The problem is we will be in Paris before we arrive into Manchester Airport - should we just by it at MAN?

I have 8 or 10 UK road atlases (long story - plus I'm a map fanatic). It will be quite a bit cheaper if you buy it there. But for the realtiively little savings - I <i>might</i> buy one at Borders/Barnes and Noble. They usually have UK road atlases in stock or can order thme for you. That would save the shipping costs and also let you study your roads/routes.

To give you an idea - an AA atlas I bought in a petrol station in 2005 cost &pound;2.99 (a special promotion) whereas the same sort of atlas now at B&amp;N/Borders runs about $20.

And AtoZ or Philips atlas from a book shop in the UK will run &pound;7-&pound;10 - in the States about $25.
