Golden circle
So...I am flying to Iceland on the 19th from DC. It’s going to be my first trip by myself and I’m super nervous . I’ve booked a multi day tour through extreme Iceland but I have a full day before the tour starts. I’m thinking of doing a guided small group tour of the golden circle but, I’m not sure if I should do an afternoon tour or a morning one. My flight lands at 6:20am on the 20th and the tour would be picking me up at 9am from my hotel. Would I have time to make it from the airport to the hotel or should I not risk it and just do the afternoon version of the tour which would be picking me up around noon?

I would do the afternoon, assuming you have no other option - how long are you going to be in Iceland? To do the full Golden Circle, it's really a full day and having only an afternoon or morning departure means that you might be taking an abbreviated tour. But if that's all the time you have, then your safest bet is to take the afternoon tour just in case.
The weather conditions at the airport can impact the deplane process and cause delays. Be prepared for the worst in Iceland as the weather impacts everything. My flight arrived on time, but the winds at the airport made deplaning unsafe and we sat on the tarmac for 2 hours before we deplaned. Add another hour before my transfer left and the 45 minutes it takes to get from Keflavik to Reykjavik, it took me over 4 hours to get to my hotel.

I’ll be in Iceland for 7 days including my two travel days. I’m trying to see as much as I can while there! I didn’t even think about the weather impacting deplaning. I’ve been super lucky in my few trips to not run into any weather related issues. I’ll stick to my original plan and book the afternoon tour. It seems to hit the main touristy locations.
