Anybody has done this. Buy a travel insurance policy that includes evacuations if necessary.>

Yes most of us - especially nice for unforeseen evacuations due to medical reasons. check any travel agency like AAA or online. Airline tickets may have an option for travel insurance as well.

Thank you.

Additionally, should we buy the Oyster Car? And how much should we put in it?

Also, what else should we buy?
Should we buy a National Trust Membership?
Anything else we should join?

We bought two Oyster Cards and put 20 pounds on each of them. When we needed to, we added more. It's pretty easy to do, as I recall.

You might want to look at the English Heritage Overseas Visitors Pass. http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/v...seas-visitors/ Compare it to joining the National Trust and see which will work better for you.

Rather than joining the National Trust in England, join Royal Oak - http://www.royal-oak.org/ . You need to decide which places you want to visit to know whether EH or NH will be better, or indeed whether membership in either will be cost effective. For a three week trip it may well not be.

I buy my medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance from Seven Corners, but you may want to compare policies at insuremytrip.com.

If you start in London, you may want to take the train to Bath, rent the car there, and drop it in York.

For trains see nationalrail.co.uk.

Good idea to stay in Manchester, it will help counteract the entirely incorrect notion that England is, or ever has been, all "charming small towns".

And when you are finished using it, you pop it in the machine and it refunds you the unused balance in cash. We did this last night and now have about 40 pounds to burn up this morning before we fly. There are always Cadbury bars to buy.

Hershey's is awful and not sold much in Australia. I thought it was funny that you would buy a run of the mill chocolate with your cash . Isn't it available in US?

Cadbury is made in the US...under license by .... Hershey. IMO the US version is crap. I think UK Cadbury is pretty good as a mass consumption brand.

We ended up keeping the 40 quid. I doubt we will ever go back to London (except as a cheap gateway) but hopefully will get to Scotland or the midlands someday. If not, we can swap them for Euros eventually. Wife said I had gained too much weight to buy anything like Cadbury or Hobnobs.

Well, Cadburys UK is much, much better than Cadburys available in Canada. We took many opportunities to do quality control...

Tunnochs? Save your £. In my opinion, a huge disappointment. Maybe it was the expectation that didn't live up. All in the name of "research" of course.
