Going to Rhodes, Greece, need advice
Going to Rhodes for the first time with my husband, been to Greece several times.
Can't decide on hotels seem to be getting alot of mixed reviews. Looking at 5 star hotels, can anyone recommend one??
Lindian Village looks beauiful, but is that too far from everything??

We were in Rhodes two weeks ago, and also visited last summer. This year, we stayed at The Rodos Hotel and Suites, which is very close to the gates of the old town. I thought the hotel was fantastic, and loved the location, which enabled us to walk almost everywhere that we wanted to go ( although I have to admit that you have to watch for the crazy drivers! Pedestrian safety seems meaningless to some of them!). We were only a few minutes away from both the old and new towns, and about a 15 min. walk from the public beach. Last year, we stayed out in Faliraki on the beach, but we all much preferred this location since it was less remote.
Keep in mind that Rhodes is a pretty big island- for example, it's about 45 min drive from the old city to Lindos- and maybe that will help you decide where to base.

Hello poppypereira, personally i found Lindos to be the best part of Rhodes! I liked it much more that the old town and generally i found the beaches nearby much nicer than the ones close to the city.
BUT as weadles mentioned, it is far from the old town so if you plan to spend your nights in the old city then don't stay in Lindos! And also no matter what DON'T stay in Faliraki!
If you decide to stay near the Old town of Rhodes there are lots of luxury hotels in Ixia area.
(i would suggest you to check trip advisor for reviews on several hotels)
May i suggest also something completely different? If you'll go to Rhodes for many days a nice option for 2-3 days is the island of Symi (1hr from Rhodes with highspeed). One of the prettiest islands in my opinion!

Hello, sweetie darling. I have just returned from Rhodes. I stayed at the Rodos Park Hotel, which is right outside the Amboise Gate to the Old Town. The hotel is the only 5-star that is in the old town. The pool was fabulous with its bougainvillea and patio/bar. Despina at the front desk was marvelous.
Lindos is a 45-minute boat ride from the New Town Harbour. There are so many tour boats to choose from. You can take a day trip by boat or hire a taxi driver to take you.
Do eat at Da Vinci. The owner and the waiters treat you like family.

Consider staying on or across the beach, Isbiscus -- not a 5 star but certainly the rooms were nice and you were right across the beach. Easy walk to the marina for boat trips to Lindos or Symi (we did both), can walk to old town for a day of visiting and good shopping. We had 5 nights and enjoyed them all. We were half-board and the food was good with a nice variety each night.

I was at Rodos Park Suites from July 12-17. What room did you stay in? Keith and I were in Room 116 overlooking the swimming pool.
Did the front desk recommend Da Vinci? That is because of us. The owner gave us his business cards which we gave to Despina at the front desk.
Did you notice all the topless German ladies at the pool? With breasts like that, sweetie darling, I would be at the plastic surgeon's office in a flash for a lift.

Marginal,
We were in Rhodes from July 19th-22nd. Stayed in a second-floor suite also overlooking Boob City, I mean the swimming pool. It was quite interesting for those of us from Boston!
Despina gave us a card for Da Vincis, which we loved. We also went to a very good pizzeria just across from the public beach. Absolutely loved being close to town- much better than being stuck in the Las Vegas of Rhodes, aka Faliraki!

It wouldn't be my first choice. It's really out of the way for sightseeing, and not much going on in Ixia (spelling?) the town that the hotel is located in. Also, there's no real beach there- just a pool or two.

Sorry- a bit misleading on my part. The beach is pebbly, but fine for a swim. Just not one of the best beaches around. And Rhodes town is a taxi ride away ( about 15 minutes), which to me is a disadvantage, but maybe it doesn't bother you.

Oh, Weadles, if only you had come sooner you could have met The Great and Powerful Thingorjus, the Queen of Fodorville!!!!!!!!! I would have let you wear my tiara and mink coat around the pool.
Poppy, I certainly would NOT stay all the way out in Ixia. Are you bloody daft? You are going to regret it because you are going to have to taxi to get to the action in the Old or New Town.
I went past the Best Western in the New Town and it looked pretty good for a 4-star. Nice pool and you can walk everywhere. Check it out.

Poppy, we stayed in Ixia last summer, and had a ball. there's enough in Ixia for a quiet night out, and Rhodes Town is a whole whopping 10-15 minutes away by a €7 taxi. Miramar Wonderland looked OK to me in passing. Go. Enjoy.

We stayed in Faliraki last summer, which is also about a 10-15 minute drive from the Old or New Town, but found it a bit inconvenient to need a cab anytime that we wanted sightsee, dine in town, etc. That's why we decided to stay close to the Old Town this summer.
To Thinny: Thanks for your kind offer! How much did Aegean fine you for extra baggage? Your tiara must be quite heavy!!!

Hi Everyone,
Rest assured, we are renting a car. We always rent cars in Greece. Why I decided on Miramar against the city hotels is that it seemed more condusive to our lifestyle, they have tennis courts, a running path and watersports. Bear in mind, we live in Bermuda...no beach will impress us!
Thanks,
Poppy

Yes, Texas, I will. My mother's estate is not settled and I am spending almost all my free time battling insurance companies. Because my mother and step-father were killed by another person (an 18-year-old kid in a speeding Landrover) the DA's office has not decided if any charges will be pressed. Due to all of this, my mother's autopsy report couldn't be released until last week, and no life insurance company would pay out. My mother was very HEAVILY insured, so of course they do not want to pay out. Prudential has be HORRIBLE to me.
I am ready to lose my friggin' mind.
But, hey, thanks for asking.
