Going to Paris Nov 8 for a week
I have currently booked a room at The Hotel de Fleurie. Does anyone have any feedback on this hotel? Also, I was able to reserve a table at Alain Ducasse. Is it worth it or is the name the bigger draw? This is our 1st time to Paris (me and my wife).

Hi Thom~lucky you, going to Paris~
The Hotel de Fleurie is in Fodors Rivage Hotels of Character and Charm in Paris-I have kept this book for a few years and it is very good at researching hotels, that are not the run of the mill touristy type.It says that the bedrooms which are not very spacious are tastefully decorated and the bathrooms are well equipped. The rooms ending in a 4 are the largest..I have requested rooms based on this kind of tip and it works out well.I know the area and love it, anywhere near the Luxembourg Gardens is lively and full of interest..although that can really be said of most of Paris! There is another guide book that is great for a different kind of recommendation, it is Frommers Irreverant Guides- Paris. We go to Paris every year at the beginning of November, the weather is usually fine for walking and we have only had rain once, and that was in the evening..If you want a good bistro dinner, try to get reservations at L'Epi Dupin or Les Bookinistes, and Le Voltaire..these are on the Left Bank and are sooo good. And when shopping on the Right Bank and in need of tea and sweets, don't miss Angelina on the rue de Rivoli..and Cafe Marly at the Louvre...Have a wonderful time~M

We stayed at the Fleurie last November and really liked it. It is just off Blvd. St Germaine so you are close to shops and restruants but don't get the noise. The hotel is about one block from Odeon Metro station and busses stop close by as well. If you need an American coffee or breakfast fix, there is an American restruant about a block away.

The staff was very experienced and never steered us wrong. If you stay for 7 nites, they give you museum passes, which are great for convienience. They will arrange a car to pick you up at the airport, but for less than 4, it is more expensive than taxis.

We will definately stay there again.

Enjoy . . Rich

Thom,

Glad you are going to Paris. I went there with my wife on our honeymoon. It is an awfully beautiful city BUT the best part is Versailles (I probably spelled it wrong). Take one or two days and take that 50 minute trip.

Wishing you the best.
