Going to London in the fall

Looking for any advice on restaurants and hotels. Have been to London before but many years ago. Thanks.

Well, there are hundreds if not thousands. Where are you interested in? What is your budget? What sort of food do you like?

"Well, there are hundreds if not thousands."

And that is just the treads already on Fodors w/ the information you are looking for.

As nona1 says we need more info from you before we can give any useful advice. Besides what she mentions: How many of you? How long is your visit? Those sorts of things.

Sorry how silly of me. Okay there are 4 of us. My husband and I and a sister-in-law and our son who have agreed to share a room with two beds to cut their own expenses. Probably looking for a mid-range hotel. Restaurants we are wide open. My husband travels a great deal worldwide but this is a bit different trip since it's first time for son and SIL. Because of their schedules we will only be in London three days and then are heading to Ireland for 4 or 5 days so will have to research that too. Just thought this would be a good place to start since we value others opinions. Thanks so much for responding.

There are sooooo many choices - sorry to seem a pest, but "mid-range" really doesn't help us too much. Do you have a $ target for your nightly room rate? "mid-range" could mean anything.

While we are waiting for that info, you might want to think about renting a flat instead of having to get 2 hotel room. There are lots of apartments that rent for less than a week. A 2 bdrm flat will give you more space than 2 semi-dinky London hotel rooms. Plus a lot of 2 bdrm places have sofa sleepers so SIL and DS could have separate sleeping spaces.

There are MANY threads about flats - but just to give you one idea check out www.scala-house.co.uk/

It is a moderately priced apatment bldg not far from the British Museum, Soho and Covent Garden. Depending on which month you mean will run about £150 per night for a 2 bdrm, 1.5 bath, liv rm w/ sofabed, kitchen.

There are many others in convenient areas like Victoria/Pimlico and South Kensington.

Another site to check is http://eandeapartments.co.uk/ There you'll get a 2 bdrm (usually only 1 bath but some have 2) for £110 per night.

I understand they are common in the US but hotel rooms with two double beds are quite unusual in the UK.

If you want to save money on hotels, bid through Priceline.com. To get an idea of the hotels available through PL in various areas of london, go to www.biddingfortravel.com. They give the list and people post info on how much they paid and the hotel they got. It's a very helpful site and from what I've seen, you can save substantially.
