Going to Lille
Hello !! I'm going to stay a month in Lille next year and I'm struggling about where to stay. We are slow travelers and it's been difficult to choose the best place... We found a very nice apartment on Rue de Fontenoy...
Is it a good place? Can you help us, we are looking at google maps and the neighborhood seems a little, I don't know... We don't drive and love to walk and to have a nice cozy bar nearby.
Thanks so much for tour help.

I go to Lille about twice a year and have stayed in at least 20 different hotels scattered around the city, but yes, I confess, always in walking distance of the two train stations, so not quite as far as your location. However, Google Street View shows it to be a totally normal Lille neighborhood and not too far from various metro stations.
If you are familiar with Paris, you might find such an area a bit disappointing because there are not cafés and restaurants everywhere like in Paris, but that is true for just about every city in the provinces -- you just get used to it and you quickly find places nearby that appeal to you, just not 5 or 6 of them in every block.
