I know it is too early to purchase tickets for october 10, 2019 but i wanted to know if the glacier express runs all year?
I wanted to go Zermatt Zurich via Chur, and on the Glacier Express on the Zermatt to Chur segment.
Thanks

Yes it runs all year - I think only once in winter and maybe only to Chur before heading to St Moritz: https://www.glacierexpress.ch/en/winterspecial/

see this official site info. Other sources of info - www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.ricksteves.com and BETS: Switzerland

You could also go Andermatt to Zurich by taking shuttle train from there down to the Gotthard mainline at Goschenen - if want shorter trip and not missing any dramatic scenery.

dukey - that link don't work for some reason - maybe temporary? but it does give link to Glacier Express:

https://www.rhb.ch/en/panoramic-trains/glacier-express

Dukey has ridden the GEX more recently than I and more than once - a good resource for questions about the train itself.

Wrote a magazine article long ago on The Glacier Express and found an interesting thing about its winter running. For years the GEX ceased running in winter because the Furka Pass which it went thru was often blocked by snow --- so a new tunnel was built under the Furkha Pass that permitted year-round running Zermatt to Chur and St Moritz.

But. ironically when the new tunnel opened the glaciers here that the train's name referred too could no longer been seen right from the train - so except when leaving Zermatt don't expect to see too many glaciers, at least up close.

The Furka railway line exists since 93 years. At the beginning, the Rhone glacier went down up to the railway track. Due to the climate change, it disappeared more and more and can no longer be seen from the initial line (where are still running some trains, but in summer only).

AS TO THE TIMETABLE:
On October 10th, there will rund 4 Glacier Express trains:
Zermatt dp 7.52, 8.52, 9.52 and 12.13
Chur ar 13.24, 14.15, 15.15 and 18.24
for the last connection, you will have to change trains at Brig (same platform)

There run NO GLACIER EXPRESS TRAINS between October 14th and December 7th, but of course hourly local trains with train changes at Visp, Andermatt, Disentis and (for St. Moritz only) Reichenau-Tamins. Zermatt dp 6.37 until 14.37 - Chur ar 13.01 until 21.01

Do yourself a big favor and get a seat in one of the Panorama cars in First Class. It will be worth the money.
