Giverny - Where to stay

Well, I'm continuing to work on reservations for our trip (3 sisters). I am checking into The Golden Chain (Les Andeleys) but am also checking into staying in Giverny. Since our time is limited, my sis thinks it might be better to stay in Giverny so we can rest and do the gardens the first day. Anyone have a B&B or hotel recommendation? Thanks.

giverny/vernon don't offer a lot in terms of accommodation, but there have been suggestions on this site. have you tried a search? let's hope past posters will see this thread and respond.

A place I would really like to stay is Le Clos Fleuri, http://giverny.org/hotels/fouche/

It was recommended by another Fodorite on her Virtual Tourist pages and looks really special. Only 70 euro for a double.

I read that there aren't a lot of accommodations in Giverny but that there are B&B's. If you go to the www.giverny.org web site there are quite a few listed. Just wondering if anyone can personally recommend an accommodation.

Le Clos Fleur looks really nice and I do have an inquire into them.

cigalechanta, I have been unable to find a hotel by the name "Les Jardins de Giverny" but there is a restaurant by that name. I have been unable to find a site for ether a restaurant or hotel by that name. I see the reference in Frommers and Fodors but it is only to a restaurant.

Hi, we stayed at Le Clos Fleuri last July for 3 nights, its a very pleasant property down a quiet side street but only about 5 minutes walk from the entrance to Monet's garden. The house is set in a lovely garden, the 3 B & B rooms are in a separate building from the house (just across the lawn) and are very spacious, private and immaculately clean. There are two comfortable chairs in the rooms with a coffee table, kettle, tea/coffee, plates and cutlery if you want to bring home something to eat, also each room had a private patio area with table and chairs. We found Madame Fouche (Danielle) to be charming and extremely helpful, although French born she lived in Australia for many years so no language problems. B & B was 70 euros a night and we would go back in a heartbeat. Hope this helps.

Thank you for taking the time to post, Patricia. Great info. We are going in July. I hope a one night stay will be acceptable. What month were you there?

About six years ago, we stayed at a B&B in Giverny. You can find it listed on the Giverny website www.giverny.org/hotels/boscher/index.htm

The Blue Room, where we stayed has twin beds and a one bed settee. The price including breakfast (coffee, tea, croissants, yogurt, and juice) is 65 for three people and 50 for two. The B&B was formerly a hotel/restaurant where Monet used to go.

The B&B is just a few blocks from Monet's house and gardens.

I think I'd rather be tied to a tree in the woods than spend a night in Giverny. I love Monet's house, garden, lilly pond and the bridge but after that Giverny has zilch to offer. I have often wondered what possesed Monet to locate there since he unlike most artists of his day was financially well to do and could afford to live wherever he desired. I guess he disired Giverny.

Hope you have a great time anyway.

Ronda, I found the restaurant and it doesn't mention the rooms but there were people staying there. It's the best dining spot in Giverny. While checking on line I saw a mention of a Hotel Le Bon Marechal and that they also have a B&B but couldn't find a site. Sorry

We've stayed at La Muasardiere on two different visits and have enjoyed it both times. It's not fancy but the lady who owns it couldn't be more accomodating. We would definately stay there again. Mary

Well, Larry, it will be our first night in France and I expect to be exhausted by the time we arrive not to mention that the driver doesn't want to do much driving the first day. I have one sister who cannot pass by Giverny without stopping so it is first on the list. We'll check in, rest up, hit the gardens late afternoon, eat dinner, hit the sack, and be ready to hit the road in the a.m.

The restaurant does sound good C. I so wanted to stay in Les Andeleys but may have been out voted. I am checking out all the good tips. Thanks everyone.

I have heard from Le Clos Fleuri. She requests a deposit by way of a personal check which she will return when we pay in cash. Is this a standard way of paying at a B&B? OK to do?

Ronda, Most B&Bs do not take credit cards.

Yes, that's pretty standard, but if she wants the check in dollars, that's not quite so standard. But it makes it easier for you, so I'd just do it.

I understand smaller places don't take credit cards. I'm just a little hesitant.

Ronda, We sent a personal cheque to Le Clos Fleuri too. It was not a problem, we just converted one night B & B into our own currency and then posted the cheque which Danielle handed back to us on our arrival.
