what is the best way to get to giverny by public transportation.thank you

You have to take a train from Gare St. Lazare to the town of Vernon ($26 round trip), then take a cab ($12) or bus to his house. The train trip takes anywhere from 50 minutes to 1 hr 35 minutes depending on the train. Paris Visions has a tour - costs about $61 and takes about 4 1/2 hours. The gardens are unbelieveable and you get to see all those water lilies he painted and his house and famous kitchen. Open April-Oct. Closed on Mondays. Well worth going. Tel:011-33-2-32-51-28-21. Hello,<BR>I visited the gardens last year and it was great to see the home & garden of one of my favorite artists (and there's more to it than "all those water lilies" as quoted above). Don't take an organized tour - they just heard you through like cattle and it is too rushed. The train is very easy, but do check the schedule, the train from Paris to Vernon does not run as frequently as you might expect. We just happend to get an early start and hopped on the 8:15, the next train wasn't until 11:00. You get the bus in Veron to go Giverny, and all you really have to do is walk across the street to pick up the bus. If you get there and aren't sure of anything - ASK! Everyone was very friendly & helpful. Have a wonderful time.

We went to Vernon and took a cab to Giverny because the bus was full before we could get on it. Because of the train schedule, I think this is one destination that argues for a tour.<BR>The tour can get you there and back more efficiently.<BR>My only objection to tours is the timing.<BR>But in this case, we sweated it out trying to get back to the train.<BR>The cab got us to the station about 2 minutes before the train pulled in. My wife was paying the driver while I was "composting" the tickets at the little gadget. She got her change from the driver, and then sprinted for the first open door on the train, and we jumped on just in time. Good thing I married a woman who at 62 could still run.<BR>

I used Paris Visions for my trip to Giverny and was glad I did. Didn't have to hastle trains, busses, cabs, etc. <BR><BR>On our way to Giverny our tour guide gave us a history lesson in Giverny, Monet.<BR><BR>On our return, sadly, our tour guide was giving us a blow by blow description of what was going on in the States. The date was 9/11.<BR><BR>We had enough time at Giverny. We were dropped off and were on our own. It was so beautiful and not to be missed. I felt we had plenty of time to see all there was to see.

The bus from the rail station to Giverny is not very frequent (once an hour if I recall?, in early April). Anyway it was much better to take a taxi and arrange with the driver to pick you up at a designated time so that you will be back at the station in time for your train. Get their as early in the day as possible.
