Gifts from Rome

My husband and I will be in Rome and Florence in October and would like to bring some gifts for our catsitters (a couple in 40s) and 10 students in my class (ages 22-28). I am willing to spend about $10 or less for each person. What would you recommend? Thank you for your help.

You're only spending $10 on your catsitters? I sure hope you're paying them something!

Of course we are paying them more. Do you think that $20.00 per day just to stop by to give her a fresh water is OK? Please, if you read my post carefully you may realize that my question was about gifts not payments.

Hi Marta,

Just returned from Rome. Depending on the religion of the people you are buying for, there are beautiful rosaries and crosses. I also happen to come across a shop that sold "Copadimonte" which is suppose to be one their finest Italian Figurines shaped like flowers. Some figurines were about $7 to $9. I was told that this is a real good buy because it's very expensive here in the U.S. I wish I bought more!

On a recent trip, we found quite a few items for less than $10. There are many types of foodstuffs, like olive oils, wines, and other products in grocery stores that are fun. Besides the religious types gifts-which are especially nice if you attend a Pope audience and have them blessed, we found some adorable marionettes of various sizes in different locations. Also, there are many gift items made of pottery. We found small house plaques that wish peace, and other decorative pieces. Check the bottom, and make sure they are not China imports. You'll have no trouble finding things if you visit away from the main tourist shops. Have fun looking.

There are silk scarves that are sold every where, as well as ties that are inexpensive and make nice gifts. Marilyn
