Getting to Positiano
If I fly into Rome, what is the best way to get to hotel in Positiano if I do not wish to rent a car and obviously back to airport a week later? Is there a train or do I need to train and bus? Also approximate amount of travel time. I appreciate the help.

Our trick: In Rome we found a tour that was making a one day trip from Rome to Sorrento, stopping in Pompeii for a mini tour. We took that "one day" trip with our suitcases in tow...only we didn't do the return run. Instead, in Sorrento we hired a cab to take us to Positano....gorgeous, but hair-raising ride. If I had to do it over again, I'd take the Big Blue Bus from Sorrento down the Amalfi Coast....inexpensive and fun.

You take the airport train (Leonardo Express 11€) into Rome's main train station Termini (trains depart every 30 minutes, travel time 30 minutes).
From Termini, take a fast train (AV/ES) to Naples Centrale/Garibaldi (70 minutes 45€), local train Circumvesuviana (3€ - 70 minutes) from Naples (downstairs in the train station) to Sorrento, bus from Sorrento to Positano (3-4€ - 45 minutes).
Or train from Rome to Salerno (ES train - 2 1/2 hours - about 40€) and catch either the bus or the ferry to Positano. The ferry depends on time of year and weather.
There used to be a bus (Buonotourist) from the airport to Salerno, but it only ran once a day and departed about 2 pm. You might ask at the tourist info desk when you arrive if the time works for you. I saw the bus while on the coast in fall of 2008, but not sure it still makes the run.

I found info on the bus, but it may be old. It's daily June 15 - Sept. 15, but M/W/F the rest of the year. Departs the airport at 3:20, arrives Salerno at 7. Cost is 15€. One bag free, extra bags 5€.
