"<i>I just did a travel route on the underground web site and it says to take the Picadilly line direct from Terminal 3 to the Leicester Square station. It says it should only take a little over an hour</i>"

Yep, that's what we said.

But you don't just get off your plane and on to the tube. Everything we've mentioned -- parking at the gate, de-planing, immigration, luggage, a long walk from T-3 to the tube station, queueing for tickets etc. So count on a minimum of 2 hours from touchdown to Leicester Sq then a 10 minute walk from there. And it could easily take 3+ hours total.

BTW...not meaning to add to your concern but you should be aware...in the re-modeling of Terminal 3 thanks to the paranoia of the US government which doesn't trust our British friends (I found security at Heathrow to be of a higher quality than tht of our US TSA agents) screening for USA flights has prompted the airport authorities to move US bound flights to the far reaches of the Terminal; while you're coming in from the USA the plane of course will turn around and head back so you have to also count on and consider a really long walk from the gate to the immigration hall. The good news is that what airlines have done is listed a later arrival time than is always the case so they can consider more flights on time...my last few flights into London Heathrow arrived 10 to 15 minutes early but on one occasion we then had to wait for the gate to clear. I still think you can and might well make it but the other alternatives are really not all that much better given the fact that London traffic can be a real royal pain in the patuna.

Bottom line - get off the plane, follow the crowd to immigration, then look for signs to the Underground. Get on a train, relax for an hour and get off at Leicester Square. Walk ten minutes and there you go. You may be a little late, you may not, but you have a phone to let them know and the fee is apparently not so astronomical that you'll be broke because of it. And there's not much you can do to change any of it, so try not to stress about it. Enjoy your trip!
