Getting to Le Mans from Berlin
My son who is 19 will be in Berlin for the summer in a language course and would like to go to 24 Hrs. at Le Mans. He can't rent a car, so is dependent on public transportation and his finances are somewhat limited. Any ideas about how he would make the trip from Berlin to Le Mans? It's his first time in Europe and he is not a seasoned traveler. He can camp when he's there. Thanks for any ideas.

You might consider one of the "discount" airlines like air berlin, otherwise it would have to be via rail and that means about 10 hours taking the fastest daytime route (Berlin to Cologne via ICE with a change to a Thalys and then on to Paris) and then he could take a TGV to LeMans.

There is one other train option on this route: the night train..leaving Berlin about 9:30 PM and arriving Paris the next morning. It would involve a transfer from the Paris Nord station to Montparnasse and then on to Le Mans arriving there about noon. Still think air might be better.
