Getting from Rhodes to Crete

Two of us are planning a week in Rhodes the first week of September prior to meeting with more friends in Crete. We're not finding any good way to get from one Island to the other that does not involve going back to Athens. Is is possible to get from Rhodes to Crete (eventually we need to get to Chania but we could arrive at any port (we think)). A ferry would be my preference but we'd consider nearly any option.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

According to www.gtp.gr, this is not an easy connection by boat.

The Aegeon Pelagos ferry mentioned by Greg is the only direct way to get between Rhodes and Crete by sea. It is actually the ANEK ferry Prevelis, which makes multiple stops on its round trip between Piraeus and Rhodes. Another route would be Rhodes to Santorini on Blue Star (Mon, Wed & Fri), spend the day on Santorini, then take either Sea Jets or Hellenic Seaways to Crete.

If Prevelis sails on the day you need it, and you don't mind spending a long day on a slow ferry, that would be the most economical means of getting to Crete. If you want a quick transfer and don't mind the extra cost, one of the flights suggested by brotherleelove is the way to go.

Thank you all. To the unfamiliar a ferry from Rhodes to Crete seems like a possibility. Looks like we'll be flying.
