Get Married in Ireland?

Is it possible for US citizens to get married in Ireland? Are there any residency requirements...48 hours, etc.?

Thanks!

Check with the Irish Consulate but usually a 3 month notice is required. Are you planning a religious or civil wedding or both ? The 3 month notice is required for both. Regarding residency etc check with the Consulate & congratulations

Our friends wanted to get married in Ireland but because of the problems involved, they had a civil ceremony in the U.S. then "got married" at a lovely little chapel at Ashford Castle. We attended the wedding. It was so charming and we were happy to have an excuse to visit that wonderful country!

We considered getting married in Ireland, but due to the residency requirements and all the red tape, we chose against it. However, there are no laws against getting engaged in Ireland, which is what we ended up doing.

You must stay in the same county where the marriage request is file for 7 consecutive days to start. Then, you have to wait 3 months to do the actual ceremony. So 2 trips are normally involved, but I think the paperwork is good for a year once filed. What better excuse for 2 trips to Ireland??

I'm getting married in Rome in May. There is a service out of New Jersey called Grand Luxe that is helping us with all of the paperwork. I'm not sure if they plan weddings in Ireland or not, but you may want to call them at 800-327-2333. They also have a website - www.grandluxeweddings.com. Best wishes to you!
