Looking at my previous post to this thread with my supposed itinerary: I made hotel reservations. My trip is 2 weeks from now. I doubt I will change my towns I will stay in but I still have room for randomly adding something or skipping something. Have any of you visited Schloss Faber-Castell and/or the pencil factory? Google maps shows that it is a 34 minute on a train or bus from the apartment I reserved in Nuremburg. By coincidence I appreciate writing instruments and drawing supplies; I would be going just to see the castle and/or factory, not to buy anything. I am good on pencils now. I checked the website of Faber-castell - it looks like it is possible to buy a ticket to a guided tour in advance, but I can't tell whether an advance ticket is necessary. If this matters, I am an English speaker but I started teaching myself some smallish amount of German phrases and words. It looks like there might be a German tour but the English tour is not available on the dates I will be available. Do you think it would be worth trying to see Schloss Faber-Castell or should I just acquiesce to skipping it? I don't want to waste time traveling to the site if I can't get in.

Ooh, how interesting. I have never heard of visiting Faber-Castell but I think it would be fascinating. However, I hear you on not wanting to go on a German-language tour. But there would be quite a lot to see in terms of pencil production, even if you don't understand, no? so I would be tempted to book anyway and just tag along with the group. Frustrating that there is no English tour at the right times. But everyone likes stationery, don't they?

The summary of my itinerary is, flights to Munich, 5 nights in Munich, 3 nights in Nuremberg, 1 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, 2 in Würzburg, 1 in Erfurt, 3 nights/2 whole days in Frankfurt am Main, flight back to Michigan from Frankfurt. I had only added Erfurt because of the old synagogue turned into a museum but if I see enough Jewish related sights in my other other places, maybe I could acquiesce to skipping Erfurt. In Frankfurt if I joined a group tour leaving at 10am, that could last until 1 or 2pm, then I might barely have time to fit in the Jewish museum building and the outdoor exvavation, and for sure I want to at least see the Stadel museum because old landscape paintings, if there are any, are special. Maybe I am irrationally trying to see too many museums. Usually I irrationally feel like old artifacts, for example in history or archaeology museums, are or should be special. I know logically that the most memorable sights or times are stuff seen outdoors.
Now I have 6 towns I am spending at least 1night in. Do you think I should make a last minute change and delete Erfurt and add a 4th night/ 3rd whole day in Frankfurt?
Yeah I know I could have gone to just Munich, Nuremberg, and Berlin, and skipped the other places. Berlin needs 6 days to see well in my rough estimation. My trip is in a week from now. It is a solo trip.
