germany in november
We are flying into Munich in Nov. and staying 6 days. We thought to see Munich, Salzburg, Veinna, and Prague. Is this do able or what is a better suggestion and the order and time to see the different places.

Do able in theory but in practice figure one day between each town with train and relocating - I'd recommend two cities - Munich and Salzburg - 4 days Munchen and 2 days Salzburg - take trains between them. day trips abound from Munich - Neuschwanstein Castle, Rothenburg, Dachau Memorial/Camp even Salzburg could be a day trip. Salzburg could do The Sound of Music tour by public bus or tour buses to the famous Lake District just east of town. Trains are great - check www.bahn.de/en - German Railways site where you can book your own discounted tickets in advance to Salzburg or use the Bavaria Pass - explained at the bahn.de/en site. For lots on trains check www.seat61.com; wwwbudgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.
You could easily do Munich and Prague or Vienna too but again a travel day used in between each.

No, not even 'in theory'.
Welcome to Fodors germanytraveler: You will probably have 5.5 days at most, and more likely 4.5 days if you are counting your arrival and departure days in the 'staying 6 days'. That is juts about enough time for Munich and either Salzburg OR Vienna OR possibly Munich and a couple of days in Prague. BUT are you flying out of Munich -- if so you need to be back in Munich the evening before your flight out.
So please clarify how long you actually have -- 6 days would require seven nights. If you have something like 5 nights you will barely have 4 days to tour. You need to build in travel time between cities -- ever move will eat up about half a day.

In theory only in sense that if you want to be on trains all the time - but yes 2 of those cities at most. Munich and Salzburg are close together (just over an hour). Munich to Vienna is about 4-5 hrs - Munich- Prague about 5-6 hrs or more by train. fly into one city and out of another.

Assuming that 6 days means 5 nights, I would stay 2-3 nights in Munich, 2-3 nights in Vienna, visit Salzburg as a stopover on my way to Vienna.
And fly out of Vienna.
f flying out of Vienna was no option, I would train straight on to Vienna on day of arrival in Munich.
And do that stopover in Salzburg on my way back to Munich.
I'd drop Prague in any case, as I'd find it too time-consuming (travelwise) to squeeze it into an already tight itinerary.
November usually has ghastly weather, esp. the later you travel in November. Salzburg is more an "open air museum" for me - not very appealing in cool rainy weater, IMO. Munich and Vienna both have tons of options for not so nice weather in comparison.

Absolutely -- IF your flights are in/out of Munich you are sort of boxed into a corner. If so, do not do split stays in Munich. Head straight to Vienna on arrival, then travel back to Munich so your stay there is before flying out.

I agree with Quokka, you better select few cities for every visit you make to Germany, so you won't have to rush instead of having quality time enjoying the trip. The most convenient way to move between cities is by using train, you can check German railway website for additional information

For suggestions on sightseeing, start by researching the area. You can do this by beginning with the Destinations tab at the top of this page.
