Germany driving trip

We have 4-5 days in Germany with a car rental. Flying into Frankfurt. Then we need to stop at Dusseldorf and finish our trip at Hanover. Any help with places to visit along the way?

We are going Aug 29. There is no budget limit. We would like to explore towns/sights and stay away from museums.

What do you want to do and visit? Big cities? Small towns? Countryside? Food? Hiking?

"Sights" is a bit broad, don't you think?

In case you prefer to explore bigger cities, I would suggest to ditch the car.
