I am trying to get 2 train tickets first class from Munich to Prague on Friday, October 3rd. I see an option for a train w/ no stops departing at 8:44. I try to make a reservation, but keep getting "Reservation request not accomplishable".

Is this due to the train (ALX 455) or due to it being full or due to the transfer from Germany to Czech Republic or something else? I have tried all versions of window/aisle or center aisle coach/compartment, etc.

Thanks!

Gary, meant to mention "Sorry for hijacking your thread!" You have received great info and I'm hoping to get some, too.

That's correct, you cannot make reservations on that train at least for the German part of the journey.

Unrelated and just for your info: October 3rd is "Unity day", the national holiday.

Good to know, thanks!

How early should we get there so we get a seat? Does 175 Euros for 2 people in 1st class seem reasonable for the 6hr trip?

Well, usually, the train will be at the station about 20 min before it departs.

It's not worth buying a 1st class ticket because it's not a lot differnt from 2nd. The train isn't that! comfortable at all.

Price in 2nd class would be 25€ for 2 people to the border with a Bayern-Ticket and about 20€ from there to Prague, so 45€ for 2 people in 2nd class is reasonable.

However, October 3rd is a holiday AND a Friday and the train may be quite full in Munich already. 1st class is an option in that case. Tickets are sold on bord (no extra fee), except for the Bayern-Ticket. (from a BD ticket machine)

The price from Munich to the border in 1st class is 55.80€ per person. Add about 15€ pp for the rest of the trip. It will be more should you buy the tickets for the whole trip in Munich

ALX 455 is a regional train. Regional trains do not have reserved seats.
