Gennaro e Salvatore boat tour: Positano

I have read rave reviews of their tours of the Amalfi coast via boat - We will be there the last week of September, which likely won't be good swimming weather. Does anyone know if this tour would be just as fantastic without the opportunities to swim? Hope this doesn't sound too flaky.
thanks, Julie

It should still be wonderful. But email them. Both speak perfect English. Gennaro's wife, Valerie, is English, and their daughter, Lara, who is often at the little hut by the water, also speaks wonderful English. I think yes, even without swimming (but I'm sure you will be able to) the trip, the conversation, the lunch, is well worth it.

Thanks Surfergirl!! I think we may do this instead of a day trip to Capri. Cheers.

They do day trips to Capri as well, but not every day. The Amalfi Coast tour was really the highlight of our trip. Salvatore and his friend, Gloria, made us feel like we were locals, not tourists, and the lunch that is served is incredible. Hope you have as much fun as we did!

My husband and I did the day trip to Capri and, similarly, it was the highlight of our 10-day stay in Positano. There's very little swimming in that tour but we did enjoy swimming in the Blue Grotto as well as the Green Grotto. Have some beautiful pictures of both. Lunch was fabulous at the restaurant in Marina del Cantone where Salvatore's daughter is the chef. The food (and wine) just kept coming and coming! Also, talking to the other guests from all over the world was facinating - hearing all about their trips and their favorite spots. Wonderful! Ciao . . .

Here's a link to their website. We were there in June and had no problem booking a trip any day the week we were there. They're also available for custom boat excursions to anywhere along the coast you may want to go.

Thanks, everyone!! Now I am conflicted and don't know which tour to do - anyone out there who has done BOTH with Salvatore??? It sounds PERFECT - we did a wonderful tour in Australia that sounds a bit like this, up in the Queensland forests watching animals and birds!! similar, but different obviously... BTW, I emailed yesterday but haven't heard back. I'm so excited I'm trying to be patient! Zee - thats when we are there too, so perhaps we can go together!! Go Fodorites!!

This sounds great. We will be in Positano in a couple of weeks and would love to take the trip to Capri. Does anyone have any information on the cost of these excursions or at least some general pricing info?
Thanks!

I emailed them yesterday as I'm in Positano at the end of next week and thought we might do the Amalfi coast tour - for that tour they mentioned 70 Euros. By the way Surfergirl, your review persuaded me to do this which was something I would hav otherwise probably not considered. And I'm hoping that the sea should definitely be warm enough to swim in!!

The cost of the Capri trip when we went was 75 euros per person. We left the dock at 9am and got back about 5pm. Lunch was late, about 2:30 but you had plenty of time in Capri for a morning snack. They served bottled water, soft drinks, and beer (included in the fee) on the boat. The fee also included entrance into the Blue Grotto but you are expected to tip the boatmen who take you into the BG (we tipped 5 euros).

You'll need money when you get to Capri to take a cab or the funicular up to the town of Capri, and any other excursions you may want to take. A single woman traveling alone went to Anacapri and took the funicular to the top. We made the mistake of taking the loooooong walk (10,000 steps or something equally mind boggling) around the outside of the island. Would not recommend that if it's hot. Wish we had gone to Anacapri.

There were about 20 people on the boat: couples, one family, young adults traveling together, single travelers, honeymooners, etc. from New Zealand, Germany, Holland, Canada, Australia. We were the only ones from the US. It was our 20th anniversary and a great day!

Try again. They should respond quickly, unless they are taking a quick break after the August onslaught.

JCK4, yes they replied to my 2 emails very quickly so maybe it is worth sending your email again in case there was a technical problem.

Oh you guys, what a WONDERFUL day!!! this was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. My husband and I ended up going on the trip with Gloria, the guide, and Daniele, the captain. It was just the 2 of us with them and one other couple, whom we got along great with. The water was in fact warm enough for swimming (or maybe I should say "not too cold for swimming&quot. We departed at 11am, returned at 6:30, took the boat from Positano all the way up the coast just past Amalfi. Lunch was at a restaurant that is primarily accessible by boat; this was one of the best meals of our trip - homemade minestrone soup, grilled veggies, gorgeous spagettti with mussels, lots of other goodies.
The best part of the trip, however, was Gloria and Danieli - both phenomenal people!! We ended up going out with her for Pizza later that night once we returned. The whole day was truly a magical experience - highly recommended.
