Gatwick Express Fare??

Lolita - I was in London a few months ago, but unfortunately I've forgotten how much the actual ticket was! Hopefully, some other kind soul will know! What I do know, however, is that there is a normal local train that also goes from London to Gatwick. It is a few pounds cheaper than the Gatwick Express, so if you wish to save some money, it is another option. It only takes about 7 minutes longer than the Gatwick Express, stopping at only a few more stations. The trip took us about 1/2 an hour. Also, we had a 3 day London Travelcard, which was still valid and we were able to use that towards the fare. It didn't cover the whole journey, but we only had to pay for the part of the trip that it didn't cover. We could not do that on the Gatwick Express. I think in the end we only paid about 6-8 pounds for the two of us. The train had plenty of room for all our luggage, however I am sure that in peak hour it will be more crowded, so at those times it may be better to catch the Gatwick Express.

Dear Lolita: I'm just back from London--via Gatwick where my sister met and delivered me in her car. I had checked the fare on the train from Victoria, though, and I believe it is 8 pounds per person each way. If you run into a three-inch snowfall as I did on the morning I left, the train looks very good indeed. (I made my flight--but just 45 minutes before take-off. One third of my fellow passengers didn't even make the airport, however, so Delta was forgiving and just rushed me aboard.) Joan

Gatwick Express have a web site at http://www.gatwickexpress.co.uk/ . I picked up a leaflet on my way through Victoria last night but in common with the web site it studiously avoids mentioning the fare (beyond saying its about a quarter the average cab fare). Don't worry about snow here at the moment (famous last words), that fall last week is but a distant memory. In fact for most of the south it was but a distant memory the next day.
