Garnish Island/Kinsale
1) Is Garnish Island worth the ferry boat ride?

2) We plan on spending 2 days in Kinsale. For those of you who have been there is there enough to do there for 2 days? Where would you recommend staying? Any recommendations on restaurants( I know there are many good ones)? We will be headed there from Kenmare/Glengariff.

Dear Marcia,
We've been to Garnish Island last summer and it's worth the ferry boat ride - you can see seals during your ride.
Surely, there are more pleasant gardens in Ireland (Powerscourt, p.e.,or Moutn Usher) but it's impressing to imagine, that the soil has been transported to the island by men.
Enjoy your stay!
Petra and Christoph from Austria
Hi Marcia,

Garnish is definitely worth the trip - it's considered Ireland's version of the tropics -tropical plants grow on this Island that refuse to survive on the mainland.
As for Kinsale - it's a haven for the Gourmet lover and home to one of the most stunning Golf Courses in the world. I'd strongly recommend at least two days . As for restaurants - pricey but definitely worth it - try the Blue Haven, Man Friday or Annelies. Acton's Hotel has a good reputation as does the Blue Haven Hotel.
Kenmare is possibly one of my favourite towns - The Lime Trees is a lovely restaurant, try Drumquinna Manor for accomodation, it's a magic little hide-away !
Enjoy your trip !

Maeve,
Garinish Isle(I just realized I spelled it incorrectly) and Kinsale were 2 separate questions. Garinish Isle is off the coast of Glengariff (south of Kenmare). Karen Brown's Ireland says the ferryboat ride is only 10 min. from Glengariff.

Do you have any comments to add regarding my original Kinsale question?
Thanks, Marcia
