Garmisch train
What has happened to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen train? I know we took trains from GAP to Munich several years ago to go to Octoberfest. In fact I recall sleeping soundly all the way back. I'm now trying to plan a trip in winter with extended family and can only find bad connections involving buses and multiple stops to get from GAP to Munich. Also note that trips to Mittenwald and Oberammergau are strictly by bus. Have I missed something? Has train service to Garmisch been discontinued? Oh, my!

There is currently construction on the tracks, so the train is substituted by bus. The works will be terminated by 15 September and train service will be resumed. Use www.bahn.de and enter a date after 15 September and you will be given a direct train connection via Regionalbahn which takes 1:19.

Hi JulieVikmanis,
Yes, construction on the tracks, or more specifically, on the platforms at the Garmisch station. The busses are substitute busses, designated as "BusSV" on the scheduler or "train replacement busses."
The trip from Garmisch to Oberammergau has always been by bus -- or has been since 2008 when I moved here. You can go by train with a change in Murnau.
Have fun as you plan!
