no..but I've visited the city in 80's and 90's. Ask if the tour takes you to the Royal Tara Porcelain Factory...fascinating manufacturing procedures. You can easily do all of Galway yourself...follow the walk stations in Fodors or Frommers Ireland. It's a compact town, friendly folks. Also, catch the salmon upstream run from The Salmon Weir Bridge on River Corrib. Take an elegant tea at the venerable Great Southern Hotel. Walk the shores of Galway Bay, take a boat to the Aran Islands. If you're driving, you can go pretty far afield on day trips...perhaps all of this is not the way you want to do it. Your choice..just suggesting.

***Here are some old scanned pix of the area...village of Tullykyne is just a few miles from the city..old friends of the famly lived there.

http://www.fahertytours.com We are doing their tour to the Aran Islands, they pick you up in town take you to the ferry and bring you back, includes ferry price for 45.00 euro. Great price. There are also day trips to the cliffs. Galway, beautiful city to walk around, eat, went to Galway crystal one time. I think it is a great base to tour the area. We are going for the Galway Oyster Festival in Sept, yummmmm!

Since Dublin was our base for four days, we booked the "Galway Overnight Offer' thru Dublin Tour Company and spend one night in Galway...Aug. 22,23
Descriptions of the city sound very nice and would liked to have taken the Aran Islands trip but, alas, time is short.
