Galeries Lafayette

Please tell me about the Galeries Lafayette. I understand they offer free fashion shows, but you need reservations. (Thank-you Elaine) How/where can we get reservations? What else is there to see/do/shop for there?

No, you don't need reservations. Check with your hotel as to the days they're offered (they were offered on Tuesdays and Fridays when I was there this last time). Also, make sure you get the 10% coupon (they're available everywhere). It really does add up! If you like certain cosmetics e.g., Lancome, Chanel - they have some very good bargains there. Also, the stationery section is fabulous!

Lisa. Also take a few minutes to look in their gourmet food shop. It is really something to see.

...also while shopping there try their convenient cafeteria , great views of Paris if you are lucky getting the right table, the food is good and of course most reasonable...

they have a web site and you can book the fashion show online (within one month of going). Here is the URL:http://www.galerieslafayette.fr/fashionshow/index.html

Hi Lisa, <BR> Things to buy in Paris - I always buy shoes when I go - the prices for what you get are much better than in the US. Ditto, for lingerie, European crystal and porcelain, French table linen and umbrellas. I bought all of the above on my last trip and realized savings of about 33% to 70% off what I would have paid in the US. Plus, if you spend more than 1,000 ff in any one shop, you get the VAT back.

Oops - forgot to mention something. If you are interested in crystal or porcelain, head over to Rue Paradis where they have several shops that carry items at discounted prices.

I agree with Nancy's post - if you're looking for porcelain/china/crystal/limoges boxes, Rue de Paradis is the best! Also, the Baccarat museum is there and sometimes they actually have a few items on sale! The china prices are MUCH less expensive than here in the states. Also, nice shopping in the St. Michael and Sainte Germain areas as well.
