So my trip to Ireland is drawing nearer, and I was wondering if anyone had an idea of where I can find a schedule for club matches, since it will be impossible, and frankly, selfish, to get tickets for GAA finals. We are staying in Dublin, so anything in that general area would be superb.

The link found by PalenQ isn't as good as it should be. Nearly very game listed is in either the hurling or the football championship, the series of matches culminating in the All-Ireland finals in September. Most are outside Dublin, something that might not be evident to people who do not know the names of the stadia. Some may be sell-outs , while others might have plenty of accommodation for casual spectators.

Most games are played on Sundays. Buy a Saturday newspaper and look through the sports pages to learn what games are on. Go into a pub (preferably north of the Liffey -- southsiders are more into rugby) and ask the barman for a recommendation. If you avoid those pubs specialising in catering for our eastern European immigrants, you should get a good steer.

Because of the size of Croke Park, there should be no problem getting tickets for any games EXCEPT games featuring the Dublin Football team and, of course the All-Ireland finals of the football and hurling.

On the day of the matches go to the corner of the North Circular Road and Russell Street (opposite Gill's Pub). There is a box office there where you can buy tickets - cash only. Allow yourselves plenty of time because the queues will be large. Be aware that this is a rough quarter of Dublin so keep on your guard. Croke Park is a short stroll from there - just follow the crowd.

If you do manage to get tickets for a Dublin Football game, stay away from the area of the ground called Hill 16 - it's perfectly safe for other games but not for games featuring Dublin.

Enjoy yourselves - it's loads of fun. I prefer hurling to football but either way it's a great day out.

I checked out the links, and sadly, it would appear that the only games going on at Croke Park during our stay is the All-Ireland Football Final.
Can anyone suggest a pub that would be fun to watch it at?
Or maybe there is someplace else we could see a less in-demand game?

It will be mad around the stadium but fun. Go to the Big Tree (Drumconfra Road) for the game ealy if you want a seat or try Quinns which is in front of the stadiums street entrance on Drumcondra Road. It will be busy but good fun.
