AnneO, best wishes to you in the days and months ahead. I hope your colleague's situation improves and that you know many people here on Fodor's (and elsewhere) are rooting for you.

I'm sorry that you had to give this first-hand testament but I hope that it will encourage others to stop using this tragedy to justify their political beliefs one way or the other. It doesn't change anything.

AnnO, thank you for that post. I can't even say I feel your pain, because I, like lots of others have NO idea what you and others are going through. I was thinking the other day, after reading some of the posts, I wondered if they have certain "blue" helicopters , we KNOW they have "red" ones, and the red ones only pick up people who voted for George Bush, and the blue ones pick up people who voted for John Kerry. Silly, isn't it? I hope that all your friends and associates find safety.

AnneO, thank you for your post. I am so sorry about what you have gone through although I think you probably feel fortunate compare to other people you know.

Like Crefloor said, I have NO idea what you or anyone in the Gulf States have gone through. Having said that I know that I and everyone I know is devasted regarding what is probably the worst tragedy the US has ever had.

I wish, I pray, I hope and I plead....can we all STOP the political arguements!!!! Can we all just work together to help all those in need. That is what we know need to do. Later, much later, we can have a commission to figure out what went wrong, how we can take care of situations like this in the future. But for now, can WE all work TOGETHER. That is my prayer.

Kavey, thanks for posting another way that people can be invited to help.

AnneO, I'm glad you and yours are ok and that things return to some sense of normal as soon as possible.

Bah to those of you still competing for the last word.

AnneO, thanks for letting us know in detail how the storm affected you. I didn't realize that the strength of the hurricane was much larger than expected.

LoveItaly, thanks for the primer on insurance. I'm a renter, and I do have an inventory of belongings, and a batch of photos of my flat, safely stored in a safe deposit box at the bank. The hardest part of creating this list is starting it. I update it every year at tax time, listing any new items I've purchased.

Scarlett, are you living in Portland, then? I know you were talking about moving here. Do you know that Northwest Medical Teams is collecting personal care items for the evacuees? I'm purging house as we speak. It's amazing how much you can accumulate.

Yes, Merseyheart, we are living here now But since we just this month moved here, we did all our "purging" before the move. I am going back through all my things and will put together a bag of clothes and shoes and will buy some things for Personal care packages. A friend is doing the same..

Thanks to whoever has made the two purchases so far...

I don't know who made them or where they found my link but can just see that two of my referrals bought prints.

They happened to be mine but please note that you have almost 6000 prints to choose from, most from photographers far more talented than I.

Please do not feel any obligation to choose from my selection only.

Thanks again for the support both emotional here on the thread and monetary, buying prints.

Thanks!

There are so many subjects represented and so many styles - modern, traditional, colour, black and white, portraits, candids, formals, landscapes, travel photography, macros, abstracts, children, flowers, animals - you name it...

Many would make great birthday and Xmas presents for travellers or just art lovers.

I'd like to say thanks again - 4 sales so far and most of those, that I have been told about, are for gifts, so not money that would normally have gone to Katrina victim support.

I have posted the link in just 2 places, Fodors and another site, and then today, also at Mamta's Kitchen.

The sales are continuing and other photographers are reporting great sales too of their own and other photographers' work.

I can't wait to see how much has been raised. Thanks again.

Apologies if I seem to ignore any responses, I'll be offline for a week or so from tomorrow.

Kavey, thanks for this wonderful idea.
I have donated to the Red Cross, The Humane Society and have just purchased some photos for myself and friends.

There are all ways of giving, and it is too bad that your innocent and wonderful suggestion was made into a political thread as unfortunately occurs WAY TOO often here.

Thanks again for your suggestion and directing me to the site.
