From Palermo to Calabria

Hi All, My sisters and I are travelling to Italy in July/August 2014. We are on a tour which will stop in Palermo, Sicily. Any ideas on how to get back to Calabria - in the fastest and less costly possible way? please. Thank you

Hi I think the best way is surely the train. It is the fastest way and costs only 9 euuros but you must reserve your tickets 3 or 4 months before to have that price, expecially in summer.

...otherwise you will have to pay 13 EUR (regional train plus ferry).

You can't book that far out. The fast trains (AV - if there are any for your route - depends on where in Calabria you need to go) can only be booked 120 days in advance. The regional trains you shouldn't buy in advance at all (more restrictions on the tickets).

Summer schedules start the 2nd weekend in June and most won't be loaded until a few weeks before that date. Summer schedules won't change much from winter. If you want to get an idea of prices/schedules, enter a date within the next 7 days. Current winter schedule is good until 2nd weekend in June.

i agree with kybourbon, if you want to take a regional train, buy the ticket directly at the station, also if your train doesn ' t depart from palermo. there are not high speed trains in sicily, only regional and intercity. intercity can only be booked 120 days in advance too.
avoid to travel by train on friday becouse there are frequent strikes (usually they start at 9.00pm of thursday and end at 9.00pm of friday).
