From Here to There and Back

I've felt this problem out on this site before, but am still uncertain how best to proceed...
We must be in Florence the middle of October and Rome for the last week of the month. We are planning to leave San Francisco about the 4th of the month and go to London or Ireland,(have not ruled out Paris!)
Question...how to best do this without wasting too much valuable time traveling and without busting a rather limited budget!
We are pretty flexible until our arrival in Florence on the 16th.
I guess what I'm looking for, are some suggestions from those of you who have experience with this sort of thing, which we obviously do not have...anything at all will be appreciated..
Thank you for your time,
Mike

Mike,

London and Paris are relatively easy to travel between.

You could fly into London, train to Paris (only a few hours on Eurostar) -- but then I would definitely FLY to Italy if you can afford it. It's a long train ride or drive.

Have a fabulous time!

Ireland to Paris or London: right now, www.ryanair.ie is offering £10 airfares.

London to Paris: take the Eurostar. If you book in advance, the fares are cheaper
http://www.eurostar.co.uk/

Paris to Naples: www.europebyair.com offers $99 fares.

Paris to anywhere in Italy: an overnight train will save time (cover distance while sleeping), but compare costs vs flying. www.sncf.com will give you routes, times, and costs for the train.
