From Cannes to St Tropez
Hi - we are going for the weekend to Cannes from July 4-6 to celebrate a friend's birthday. We are staying at the Sofitel Mediterrane in Cannes which is waterfront, but want to also spend some time in St. Tropez, specifically at night (drinks, dinner, after) How close are they? What is the easiest way to go between them? Obviously not driving since we plan to drink. Do they have car services that are reasonably priced - we have at least 5 people going.
Thanks!

About an hour by highway if there is no traffic. Could be 2 1/2 hours as well (I have driven that distance in both an hour and closer to 3 hours). I believe there is a boat, but that will take you several hours as well, and will not be useful if you want to have dinner there.
If you're only there for three days, stick to Cannes; plenty of restaurants and nightlife. Alternatively, spend a whole day in St Tropez, somewhere like Club 55 or another beach club, have lunch, drive back later in the evening.

Stay in Cannes. If you want to dine somewhere else, take the train to Nice (similar to Cannes for dining on the Cours), or Villefranche, or Antibes. However when we did something similar 2 years ago, there was only a late train heading west on Sat nights - not any othr days of the week.

Why the hell St. Tropez???
When in Cannes, make sure to drive along the Corniche d'Or to Agay and back or, better, rent a boat that takes you to one of the secluded bays of the Esterel coast.
One of my favorite bars in Cannes is the bar of the Majestic. It is very stylish to sip a glass of champagne there.
