Bonjour Frank,

did you hear something I didn't ? It looks like today's the worst of the strike, and one of our colleague is missing somewhere near Limoges, hoping for a train home ... The unions are not looking like they are amenable to reason, and we all expect further trouble during the weekend.

Florence bonjour! I heard it on the news already this morning and it's written down on French site of the SNCF.
It's definitely a chaos and Easter holidays are starting this weekend in France.

Bon weekend à toi!
The rail strike is most definitely NOT over.

Tomorrow (Saturday) there will be only two out of three TGV trains running to Lyon, Avignon and Marseille. The others are expected to run 'more or less' normally.

Local train service will still be disrupted in places - including Paris.

Only SOME of the unions agreed to the offer by SNCF - the others are holding out. This is a huge weekend for Easter vacation departures... a normal time for airlines and the train workers to go on strike.

PB
Bonjour,

I agree, from what I've seen on the news the SNCF strike is far from being over. If your interested you may follow all of the developements at the following url:http://www.tf1.fr/video/news/lesjt/
Just follow the link to the JT or journal televise and you can watch the broadcast news on TF1 - 13:00 and 20:00 all in French of coarse, with a high speed connection it is just like watching small tv. They also have an excellent archive of all of the previous JT's for the entire year.

It's a great way to keep your ear tuned to spoken French as well as keeping up with what is going on in France. Antenne 2 and FR3 have similar programs available but my connection to the TF1 site is much faster.

Enjoy,

Randall Smith

I'm not sure, but I think the SNCF rail strike is finally over from what I've read in the French news today -- which was a story about what the costs were "now that the strike is over"; on the other hand, last week I read that only 3 stations were still on strike (Marseille, Nancy and Lyon) and Marseille voted to go back to work Fri or Sat, so that kind of left two still on strike, not sure. However, the two French/Swiss (?) airlines AOM and Air Liberte are having strikes now in France.
