Georgiegirl, you're asking great questions! Why don't you make it a new post? I'll be looking for the responses too. Thanks for the great idea.

Cig, this is one of my all-time favorite movies!! I recorded that movie about a year ago when it was on and I watch it every few months. I have never been one to watch the same movie again and again, but I never get tired of that one.

As you all know, Meg's character was one who hadn't seen much of the world and was terrified to take any chances. She thought if she lived life in a shell, then bad things wouldn't happen, but she got dumped anyway. My favorite scene of all is when she meets Charlie and Juliet on the beach and tells them that she is going through a transformation. She realizes that if you live life trying so hard to protect yourself from every bad thing that can possibly happen, bad things still happen anyway, and you've had a really boring time in the process. That is not an exact quote, it's the best I can remember, but her point is that we must get out there, live our lives to the fullest and not be afraid to take chances to have an adventure.

Some people ask me why I still travel in these "dangerous" times with the constant threat of a terrorist attack. I always tell them that you cannot hide from the bad guys, and are we really any safer to stay home? I think 9/11 proved that we are not. Although some caution is a good thing, we simply can't avoid every possible thing that can go wrong. That was the big message I got from this movie. If anyone hasn't seen that movie yet, I think it's a must-see for any good Fodorite.

Hey, Kevin Kline is also fabulous in "DeLovely."

We just bought the DVD of his "Hamlet" and are going to watch it this week.

P.S. We watch "French Kiss" whenever we need a France or light comedy fix, and it never, never disappoints. Doesn't hurt that Jean Reno's in it, either.

I alwasy enjoy that movie, although in the beginning, Meg Ryan had my nerves on edge.

Kevin Kline in "Wanda", I can't even think about his performance without laughing - what a genius!

Has anyone seen "The Good Thief" yet?

IMHO, way, WAY better than Ocean's Eleven (which I didn't like at all actually), and set in Nice and surrounding area. Nick Nolte essentially plays himself and is absolutely wonderful in the role! He plays a heroin-addicted thief, operating in the sewers of the Nice underworld, and he manages to make you love him and, GASP!, he is even attractive, in some bizarre, seedy way. There are some great shots of the Cote d'Azur.

There are several excellent French actors in the movie also that you will recognize. Personally, I just loved the muscle-bound "heavy" who had recently had the sex-change operation. Despite what you think, this is not a dark movie at all.

Hi Ger!
I saw the Good Thief a few months ago and I agree, it was an excellent film.
Full of atmosphere and Nick Nolte looked and sounded great ( I think it is his voice that makes him look so good

Well I never thought of it that way Scarlett, but I think you are absolutely RIGHT! He was never a good-looking man (I remember him from when I saw him as a kid in the mini-series "Rich Man, Poor Man), but his voice is like melting chocolate.

regards Ger

I could be wrong, but I suspect it is a regular train. The TGV didn't go to Cannes when the movie was made.

I THINK.

Nick Nolte looked very good in The Deep as did Jacqueline Bisset! And one of my all time favorites, Robert Shaw!
I really liked that movie ..

Did anyone see him in the film with Julie Christie, filmed in Montreal. My mind has gone blank, cannot remember the name ~ sigh~

My husband thought I reminded him of Julie Christie by my walk when we saw her first popular film. "Billie Liar." I was kind of a loose goose walking like she was in my 20's. Swinging my bag like the whole world was my oyster.
Now , At my age, I dread it fading away.

Mimi, didn't Julie Christie also play opposite Donald Sutherland in "Don't Look Now?"

Statia, yes, she did. She was also amazing as Hamlet's mother in "Hamlet", playing mom to Kenneth Branagh.
