Cigalechanta: the wind in the Luberon mountains that seems to blow throughout the movie Swimming Pool--is that a summertime thing? Or is it always there? It lent an almost eerie presence to the movie.

Thanks, cigalechanta. I knew about the mistral from having read several novels in which it was mentioned. It's always been spoken of in rather disparaging words as being something harsh enough to drive a man crazy, so I didn't connect it with the soft wind in "Swimming Pool."

Can you help with something else? I have been wracking my brains trying to think of the name of an old French movie. It was the first movie I ever fell in love with. Black and white, set in Paris, main character was a circus performer--a Pierot. Falls hopelessly in love with beautiful woman performer. It is very sad, naturelement. Any ideas?

Mais oui! Merci beaucoup. The scene in which the heroine decides to stay the night was to me the most sensuous I've ever seen--and absolutely nothing was shown! Powerful filmmaking there.

Sorry I had to leave a minute, my blind/deaf dog needed to get off the bed.
"Les Enfants Du Paradis"is directed by Marcel Carne and it is considered one of the materpieces of the French Cinema.
The screen play was written by Jacques Prévert, the poet and has been called the finest work written for the screen.
The famous Artetty plays the elusive courtesan and the great Jean-Louis Barrault plays the mime. Set in the theatre district of 19th century Paris.

What a horrible story about Marie Trintignant. J-L was the voice of the brain in City of Lost Children, one of my favorites. Fun to watch Ron Perlman speak French.
