I work at a hotel here in the states and someone had told me that in exchange for free train fares in Europe we give Europeans free airfare. I thought this sounded strange and that's why I asked. The last time I went to Europe it was all planned and we went through a tour group. This time we're trying to just do it ourselves. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

Oh Jenna, rain_monkey, someone was sure pulling your leg for sure, meaning they were teasing you.

Everyone has to pay for train rides one way or another.

Everyone has to pay for airplane flights, one way or another (perhaps they may think they get them "free" due to using Frequent Flyer Miles).

If I in any way made you feel bad I am sorry.

You are planning on travelling to Europe independently. Good for you! Do post whatever questions you have here on Fodors. But do start a new thread, don't make it part of this thread.

And make sure the title of your thread is clear as to what your questions are. That way you will get a better response from those that can answer your questions. Best wishes to you!

Why do some posters see trolls and stalkers everywhere!
rain_monkey, it is not true. Try to google and find out prices for your destinations.

You know, we all love the "How Much Should I Tip the Pilot" thread and there's really not much diffence here. What if the OP on that thread had been asking a serious question? How do you know? Looking at someone's prior posts might help, but not necessarily. This isn't a matter of trolls, who are generally insulting in some way. This is a sad loss of humor on this site.

That should be "difference".

Hi Barbara, you are right IMO. BTW, if I kept reposting everytime I mistyped a word I would be reposting 24/7, LOL. Take care!

hi rain monkey, Good for you doing your own trip! Self planning Europe can be BIG fun. And definitely someone was just kidding around with you, or there was a misunderstanding like flying on frequent flyer miles or traveling on a Eurail pass purchased.
