Hi! Will be traveling to Frankfurt at the beginning of October and will be with 4 friends my mom and my brother. I wish to know if Air BnB is more suitable for us to book or hotels that is quite central which are near train stations and trams? Been checking for weeks now and I know we'll be traveling at a peak season hence prices can be high? Can you recommend good affordable accommodations in Frankfurt? Would be really helpful for your inputs. We'll be staying for 6 days planning also to go around other German cities. Recommendations on this will also be helpful. Thanks!

We recently stayed at the Motel One Römer and found it to be well located and relatively reasonable. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable.

Are there seven of you altogether?

I do not recommend staying in Frankfurt if your plan is to visit other Cities in Germany. It is not a good base for seeing many other places.
This is really important! You need a better itinerary before picking a base or places to stay. What towns or cities in Germany do you want to visit?

Are you arriving at the Frankfurt airport? Are you departing from Frankfurt airport? Are you arriving by train?

What is your budget for lodging? Can you share rooms? How many bedrooms to you need? It will probably be easier just to book hotels. You say six days. How many nights lodging do you need? Six days could mean you need seven nights, but might also mean you only want five nights.

I don't necessarily agree about Frankfurt being a bad base. It's very well connected, with the airport and city being rail hubs and centres for picking up cars, and it's smack bang in the middle of Germany. However, in the past (think early '90s) there used to be a criminal element (drugs). That gave the city a bad reputation, although it's not as if you would ever have had random shootings, that wasn't the form of criminality. Frankfurt has cleaned up its act considerably since that time, although I still would prefer not to stay near the train station, it's an area that is still a bit down at heel. Texasbookworm in recent years has written a series of reports using Frankfurt Hoechst as a base, and did many day trips from there; look her up.

I have lived in Wiesbaden and so I know Frankfurt a bit also (part of the same urban area), been there many times for shopping or movies in the original version or just visiting the museum riverbank or the applewine pubs in Sachsenhausen. If you are shy of Frankfurt, there are other nearby cities such as Mainz which does not scare off Fodorites - an excellent base for the Rhine or cities like Heidelberg.

You might look at the Adina in Frankfurt if you are going to stay there. I know other Adinas and they are usually nice living.
