The city of Frankfurt is only 11 min. away from the airport. Use the S-bahn from the Regional train station, located under Arrival Hall B-1. All the trains leaving from track 1 go to city. Ticket machines are touch screen, switch to English and a group day pass will cost you 14.90 euro. Use small bills or change. No credit cards and no need to validate. The main train station is 3 stops from the aiport.

I would do as Mainhattengirl says and catch and S-Bahn from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station). From there I would take the U-Bahn two stops to the old city square at the stop "Dom/Römer." From there, I would just stroll around the old city and cathedral square, ducking into a cafe for a coffee and cake, or beer and sausage, depending on the time of day. An outdoor cafe might be nice, depending on the weather. I know there are a couple of museums in that immediate area, but I cannot speak to whether they would be worth a quick visit.
