France this June-Crazy?

Id like to travel to France with my husband & daughted(Paris, Chamonix area, Avigon/Arle) from 6/7 thu 6/21. Assuming I can get hotel space, am I crazy
to do so with world cup going on?

Make your hotel reservation TODAY if you have your heart set on going to Paris in June. Football fans from all over the world will be descending upon Paris like locusts so you may end up paying more for a hotel room than you intended (the lower-end hotels and hostels will be booked solid). Football (soccer) fans are also not known for their genteel behaviour. If your schedule allows, why not go to Paris in the off season when there aren't as many tourists? There are shorter lines to museums and monuments, shorter waits in restaurants, and you get more of a feel for Parisian life during the off-season. I think going to Paris with tons of tourists and tens of thousands of football fans may ruin your memories of your trip and also not allow you to see as much of the city and its environs as you'd like.

I don't think it's so crazy, considering it doesn't
start until 6/10 and shouldn't affect any of the
places you plan to visit except Paris. There's a
game in Paris/St. Denis on 6/10 and then not again
until 6/13, and then several in Paris near
the end of your trip (6/18, 6/19, 6/21). If I
were you, I'd see Paris at the beginning of your
trip, and go on from there. It wouldn't hurt to
try to see if you can get hotel and then decide;
however, it sounds like you don't even have an
airline reservation yet, which could also be a big
problem.

If you have your heart set on Paris, and on short notice, you might have to improvise a little on your travel arrangements. If you can only find a flight in or out of Paris because of heavy traffic, you might also look at taking a train to or from another city and flying in or out of it. Myself, I'm flying to London in May but couldn't get a flight back from London, so I'm taking a train to Amsterdam and will fly back from there. The train ride is only 3 hours, and I'll be able to take in another great city!

It's not entirely crazy, my family and I are going ourselves in early July. My father and brothers are going to see World Cup matchs and my mother and I just to sightsee. With more tourists around it is bound to be more expensive, but you'll find a lot more of helpful people around aswell. Not all football fans are totally crazy! I'm sure you'll have a memorable time. You could probaly get away with speaking alot of english because of the World Cup!
