Unfortunately, the strike affected my visit.
On Tuesday, the Pantheon and Musee Rodin were closed, as well as the Effiel Tower.
Wednesday morning Metro service was sparse. I and many others missed my flight. I noticed a couple of people who left Paris @ 7:30 missed their noon departure.
I still enjoyed my trip though. Next time, I'll make better contingency plans.

We're leaving in three hours for France (Brittany & Paris), and in a weird way I'd be glad if everything were shut down. That way, since I KNOW I've overplanned, I could spend my time just sitting somewhere rather than running hither and thither.
Anyway, as a relative newbie, thanks, everybody, for the advice and fun I get here! I'll post a report in a couple of weeks.

We returned from Paris yesterday. Tuesday there was no RATP,or RER,(even the newstands were closed (?). Yesterday there a few buses running but nothing else. The traffic into town was so bad that our van (Blue Van) was three hours late getting to us. We made it to CDG in 30 minutes {a scary ride!}
but we could see that the inbound traffic was very slow.
There were parades of workers thru the area carrying signs - interestingly they stayed on the sidewalks - the street traffic was heavier then usual

I went on CNN and it appears that at least one union has been satisfied, but that another one which also represents tranport workers is planning a strike for May 19. Anyway, after reading all of this I went ahead and booked with Paris Shuttle to the hotel on May 23. I decided better safe than sorry.

At the risk of being totally boring, I will repeat that you can find out everything you want to about current and upcoming strikes in France by logging onto www.lesgreves.com.
As Bootman has no doubt figured out, it's NEVER "over."

Joanne,
I just went to CNN. com and did a search title French strikes. I got a lot of articles some of which were rather old, but by looking at the dates I found one dated May 17,2003.
Having dealt with strikes before who knows what will happen on your flight. In one instance that I am aware of international flights went as scheduled landed but domestic flights were grounded due to a lack of air traffic controllers.
