Fountains at Versailles?
Someone told me that the Fountains at Versailles are turned on certain days. Does anyone know anything about this? I would like us to visit when they have the fountains on. I leave on Thu 4/19, so if you guys have some info, I would appreciate. Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

I was in Versailles last Saturday (4/14/01). The fountains were turned on for one hour (noon-1 p.m.). This was announced in advance and lists of events are posted near ticket booths. The Versailles fountains and the music were beautiful, but even without those, there's plenty to see.

Here is the "starting" point of the info:

http://www.chateauversailles.fr/en/630.asp

You'll have to explore both "shows" and "play of fountains" to decide which one of the "many" fountain events you want to see. We went to the "Les Grandes Eaux Musicales". We got the fountain show tickets at the entrance to the garden (completely separate from the enormous waiting line to get into the chateau itself.)

Molly, I think I found this last week at www.paris-anglo.com. The fountains are on days other than Sunday because I found that they would be on for the "Grandes eaux musicales" on 8 May when I will be there. If you can't find the info, I will look for it for you a bit later. Boots

Take the RER Line C - Direction Versailles Rive Gauche. This will let you off close to the Chateau. Trains also run to Versailles from Gare St. Lazare (Metro St. Lazare) every 15 minutes. It's about a 30 minute ride and costs $5 round trip. It lets you off in town - you have a longer walk but get to see the town. Try to avoid Sundays - tremendous crowds, unless you want to see the fountains. Then it has to be Sunday. Closed Monday. Admission about $9
