Nikki,

GO MAROONS!

I assume your alma mater was University of Chicago. At least this website claimed that song as one of their cheers:

http://student-www.uchicago.edu/~ahkissel/cheers.html

lots of fun on that page. Sounds like a bunch of really smart kids matriculate there.

I agree with Christina. We are all travelers, none more important or special than the next. There are comments now and then from those who think some people are in a clique etc and that causes all sorts of bad feelings.
Trip Advisor has "local experts" and I know for a fact that one Oregon "expert" is not even an Oregon native, and often posts inaccurate advice. I really don't like that idea !

All is lost! Now even kind Scarlett has sent me to the doghouse, where even Pup doesn't go.

As Emily Litella would say ... "Never Mind."

No no, never the doghouse!! ((&amp)

You are right, Pup's doghouse is a loft apartment with a terrace so he can keep an eye on things down below LOL

PIMF (Peter Is My Friend) no no, just joking!! we are complete strangers!!!
I was reminded just now by a double posting by someone thinking they posted on the "Italy" forum so they posted again..realizing they were on the "Europe " forum..that should be made clearer too, somewhere in the How to Post on Fodors booklet .. see Nimrod, if you had posted this, it would have been much more technical sounding

Maybe someday, some way, Fodors will be able to control the pest posters who register with new screen names every couple of hours to trash other posters or to spoil threads?
That would make these forums so much more pleasant..

Hello!
I agree that there should be something that explains better instructions for new people. I would have loved to have gotten an email saying welcome that had a few links to FAQ's and how to's.

Everyone here is usually very patient with newbies and their minor booboo's. There are many who are kind to explain and Rex is amazing with his patience. I often wonder how much of his time is spent repeating the same info. or sending the same links again and again.
(You did it for me too...thanks!)

I don't know if this would be possible but...How about a spell check in the preview my reply? I would love to be able to use italics, underline, bold and spell check without a cut and paste from Word.

I think a member profile is great. I have been elsewhere when it is a relief to know that the person who's opinion you have read has been around since 2001 and has 300 posts and not a troll.

Here's an idea! Using Rex' patiently explained thoughts, I suggest when one goes to the Post A Reply entry box, that the country/state in which it is being posted (unless changed) display to the right of the profile. And why not be able to select the country/state right there?

And oh yes, it would be nice if one could cut and paste from Word without getting question marks instead of the original punctuation. I know that you can prevent that by turning off certain features in Word, but many people don't know this and many reports end up with very confusing formatting as a result.

Peter,

Did you go to Guilford?

"As a graduate of a perenially cellar-dwelling Division 3 basketball non-power" -- hey so did I, but now it's a perenially cellar-dwelling Division 1 basketball non-power. Though that might not be true, the couple of times it made it to the dance, we weren't in the play-in game. But when in NC, if you're not in the top 5, you're in the cellar.

Anyway, suggestions for the site. If I'm searching an area like North Carolina or France and I click on a message and respond to it, I'm then taken to the main group listing, like USA or Europe. Could I please stay in the area I clicked on first?

I'm not sure I like the idea of ranked posters. I'm not sure I'd be ranked the best, so my self-esteem would be shattered. I doubt my fragile ego could handle all of it. Upset one person and my rating would go from 90 to 12 in a second.

And anyway to get rid of the nasty people? Those who register new names on regular basis to cause trouble?

And please let us have some humor. On a rough day, reading something like tipping the pilot can brighten a day.

NC Girl:
Went to a small Quaker college in Pennsylvania, so the only group we could regularly beat were the Mennonites.

After you sign in at Lonely Planet, click on Preferences; you can customize your settings so posts with current responses come up first.

I've been a member there for a year and just found this out.

A couple things that I <i>do like </i>on Lonely Planet's Thorntree forum are:
-- Ability to send a private message (&quot;PM&quot; feature) to another poster via the LP website; whereas, on this forum, posters have to publish their email address should they wish to correspond privately w/other Fodorites. As this forum can be searched via Google, it exposes one's email to the entire WWW;

-- Ability to input a HTML link to other websites allowing viewers to simply click &amp; go to 'such &amp; such hotel' or 'this particular guide company'.
