Football match in Brighton

Firstly, I would like to thank all of your advice for our recent trip to Bath, Salisbury and Southampton for the football match. Hopefully I can get it together to write a trip report. Your tips were invaluable and we are truly grateful. It was so much fun that we want to do another trip, this time to see a football match in Brighton. This is another quick, last minute trip. This time we are bringing our 18 year old son and we are planning it for next week. My question is, should we stay in Brighton? It looks like a pretty interesting town, but I’ve read some negative descriptions of it on this forum. We really loved the little village of Wilton outside of Salisbury for our base as we drove to Bath and took a train to Southampton. We are willing to travel into Brighton to stay in another charming town. Our budget is ~£200/night. Thank you in advance.
