Fodor's, Why Don't My Bookmarks Work Anymore?
I've made many bookmarks on postings that have info that is useful to me, but they don't work anymore. I did them the recommended way -- in Internet Explorer, I right click in the body of the message and then click "Add to favorites" -- and they worked for many weeks, but now they just take me back to the Europe forum and not to the particular posting I want. Maybe this is something that is unavoidable because of messages being deleted or because of reindexing or something else, but if it's because of programming changes, I wish you would go back to the old programming. As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Being able to bookmark favorite postings has been very helpful to me, especially when you consider how the effectiveness of the search function varies widely over time.

The price of progress...
The new software both references the threads in a different way and updates that reference in such a way to make bookmarking impossible.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Only advice I have is to save important threads to your own hard drive.

Julie, Here's my method. There may be better ones, but I like mine.

1. Wait until a thread is sufficiently "finished", that is, don't do this everytime a new reply gets posted to a thread you are following.

2. Make sure your cursor is in the scrolling window (the one where all the replies show up). Hit Control+A to highlight all of the thread. Now hit Control+C to copy all of this text to your clipboard. Click anywhere to get the text "unhighlighted."

3. Now open your word processing program. You are going to paste the text from the clipboard into a document. Either create a new document or paste it into an existing one. Hit Control+V and you're done.

It's a basic "cut and paste" maneuver: Control A, Control C, Control V.

I generally keep a Word document open the entire time I'm checking the posts to make this easier. I title it "Travel Recommendations" and post info from a variety of sources into it.

Another way, which I think is easier is...

If you are using IE, then click the thread. Once the thread appears, click the right mouse button and select add to favorites.

If you are using Netscape, do the same but instead of selecting "add to favorites" select "add to bookmark"

Hope this helps.

Jim,

Can you give us the specifics on this? I was viewing a post using Internet Explorer and decided to try your suggestion, so I clicked on the Mail icon on the toolbar. When the mail composition screen came up, I addressed the message to my email address and sent it. It came in, but there was nothing to it -- it was just blank. Was I supposed to attach something to the message, or how exactly does this work?

Dan,
The problem you're having is because your using Internet Explorer. Using Explorer, if you go to file/send/page by email, you will receive your email with an attachment that takes you back to Fodors page--unfortunately, many posts have been made since the one you wanted to file and you are back to why you posted your question in the first place.

Using Netscape, you simply go to file/send frame to your email address and you will get the entire frame dealing with your topic nicely typed with full margins with each reply separted by a line.
Be sure that you click on the right frame the get the replies. Clicking on the left frame will get you all the questions on that frame with no answers.
There are many people that swear by Internet Explorer, but I still use Netscape 4.7 along with IE 5.5.
I like Netscape because bookmarks are much easier to handle with less clicking. I have 14 European country folder buttons along the top of my netscape screen which I just click on for drop drown bookmarks.
I like Netscape 4.7 better than 6.0 for may own personal reasons.
Hope this helps.
