Ziana - My UK comment is a response to richardab's early reply.

And if you're going from France to Germany, you don't go through any checkpoint, unless you're going through Switzerland, which is not Schengen. Just like you don't go through any checkpoint between Michigan and New Hampshire, unless you go through Canada.

Ziana - If you're flying into Paris directly, then you go through immigration at Paris Charles de Gaulle. You do not go through immigration between France and Germany.

So, I will come to FRankfurt and just go to Hamburg, right ?

Okay, I was just about to wonder. It'd help if you use FRA, the airport code for Frankfurt.

You clear immigration in FRA. FRA to Hamburg is a domestic flight.

Wow I never realized that UK is not in the Schengen. So that means if I fly through London to Rome I will have to clear immigrations in both London and Rome? I remember flying from Vienna to London to Newark last year but I dont remember doing immigrations in London. But then I was shuffled all over the place in London so i don't know what I did. Maybe because I stayed within the transit zones I didn't have to do British immigrations...

rkkwan, it is my opinion that they should make people go thru immigrations between New York and California and keep all those damn New Yorkers out of the state!

richardab-

If you are only transitting in London, you don't have to clear immigrations in London.

We did a long haul Lufthansa flight last June- from the Westcoast of North America to Frankfurt. We have also taken several other international flights on Lufthansa to destinations to and from North Africa and the Middle East. We have travelled extensively and I am surprised by the negative comments I have seen in this thread about Lufthansa compared to various American carriers. I agree that Lufthansa is not the best international airline (and we have travelled in both its economy and business sections)but it is in my experience, far superior to any American carrier that I have ever flown. Please do not flame me for that remark- I am not trying to offend anyone, but that has been my experience. The food has always been more than adequate airline quality and the service has always been efficient. The flights were on time and uneventful. What more can you expect? Frankfurt airport...well that's another story.

Took Lufthansa the past 2 summers. One was JFK-> Munich -> Naples, the other was JFK-> Frankfurt->Marseille. I felt that legroom and seatroom was tight (I'm about 5'3 and 115 pounds) and felt very sorry for my husband. But the flights were cheap. Run with typical German efficiency. When our Marseille -> Frankfurt flight left late due to Italian airforce practice runs, they held the outbound plane from Frankfurt-> JFK for us, and had runners with walkie-talkies taking everyone off the late arriving plane.
