Fly from Venice to Naples?
I'm thinking of flying from Venice to Naples at the end of April. Does anyone know about what the one way fare is & which airlines fly? Is it a hassle to get from Naples airport to get the local train to Sorrento, other parts of the coast? Private driver is not in the budget. Thanks!

I would not take valuabLe time flying, but board a railway sleeper on the Marco Polo Express at 2300, leave at 2333, and reach Napoles Central at 0959. Then to Naples Circumvsuviana station, leave at 1032, and reach Sorrento at 1133. The fare, with sleeper supplement, is about 80 euros.

[email protected]
I would fly for goodness sake, why spend 12 hours on train. Try www.europebyair. It's $99 one way. They fly this route, just read the website to figure out how they work.

We are FLYING from Venice to Naples in early July. Europebyair is what we are doing. $99.00 Even though seeing the countryside would be nice, 1 hour flying vs. 7-9 hours on a train, no brainer! Haven't made my reservations yet, they told me to wait until March. See you there!

You have to get to the airport, then you have to get out of the airport, collect luggage, etc and get into town. More like 3 - 4 hr.

If you take the sleeper, as Ben suggests, you get more time in Venice, see the countryside at breakfast and get out at the Naples train station. You also save the cost of one night at a hotel.

I don't know of there were other behind-the-scenes changes with the inauguration of registration, but this post has been indexed since last night (i.e., in 12 hours or less).

The ability to get back to a post you just made in the past 24 hours is key for newcomers, I think.

That's a great improvement, Fodors. Keep up the good work.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
Here are two options:

1. Fly from Venice to Naples on either Alitalia or Alpi Eagles. Check the Alitalia web site for fare information. From the Naples Airport, take the Curreri airporter bus direct to Sorrento, without going through Naples. Bus fare is under 6 Euros.

2. Take the train from Venice to Naples, then connect to the half-hourly Circumvesuviana commuter train to Sorrento.
Venice lv. 8:33 Eurostar res. required
Rome ar 13:05
Rome lv 13:27 Intercity res. suggest.
Naples ar 15:24
Fare: 83.72 Euros in First Class;
57.18 Euros in Second Class (reservations on both legs included)
See: www.trenitalia.com
The Circumvesuviana rail takes 65 minutes to reach Sorrento. Fare is under 4 Euros. Circumvesuviana is NOT part of the Italian national rail system, and has its own web site.
