As said above, it would be a good idea to drop off your car in Italy: Stresa, Verbania, Domodossola, Malpensa airport, Varese, Luino, Como or so.
From there, it's very easy to cross Switzerland by public transport.
Most alpine passes will still be closed in May.
Simplon Pass will be open for sure and the ride with the yellow Swiss Post Bus Domodossola dp 13.50 and 14.50 will be enjoyable (if the weather is fine)

Continue from Brig to Spiez on board of the train Loetschberger
