Florence to Venice
My husband and I and two adult children are spending four nights in Florence in early April and our two final nights will be in Venice before we fly out of Venice. Any recommendations for our fifth night? My son is a Latin teacher and loves all things ancient. It will be his first time there.

If you like, you might break your train trip between Florence and Venice with a stop along the way in Verona. Take an early train from Florence to Verona. You can store your luggage at the train station (at least they used to have a baggage room). Spend few hours exploring the old center of town, including the intact Roman arena. There are also remnants of other Roman structures and roads around the old center. Have a nice lunch--great food and wine in Verona. Catch an afternoon train from Verona to Venice.
If your plans are set and you can't reserve another night at the same hotel in Venice, you might stay overnight in Verona. I'd still rather continue on to Venice the same day and wake up in Venice the next morning.

We drove from Florence to Venice last year, and spent a couple of nights in Siena along the way. We loved all three cities, but I would spend the extra night in Venice ... my husband would spend it in Florence! (He couldn't get enough of the museums in Florence.)
